The 4th award ceremony took place on November 16, 2007 at Tokyo Main Dining. Separating submissions for the 4th movie festival into 3 genre segments (Fiction, Animation, and Documentary) resulted in 461 submissions from 57 countries worldwide, down from 616 submissions for the 3rd movie festival. However, the quality of the movies submitted were exceptional and the CON-CAN International Jury members had a 3 hour long debate during the internet conference that decided the Grand Prix and Tamashii awards.
Over 100 guests attended the award ceremony, including movie-industry related professionals, sponsors, embassy personnel, press, other prestigious individuals, and staff members. CON-CAN Chairman, Masahiro Yoshino presented the award to the award winners: Rios Guillermo from Spain, director of “Nasja” (Tamashii award winner) and Huang Ying from China, director of “The Pond” (Grand Prix award winner). Unfortunately, due to his movie screening tour at the United States of America, Tamashii award winner Dan Monceaux (Australia), director of “Shift in Perception” was unable to attend.
The award ceremony kicked off with the screening of a video message from Dr. Agnes Chan Miling, ambassador of the Japan Committee for UNICEF. Since December 2007, CON-CAN has been providing 3 movies tri-monthly to be aired on one of Jupiter Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (J:COM - Japan’s largest cable television provider) channels. When a movie is purchased by a customer, all proceeds go to the Japan Committee for UNICEF and this collaboration project is known as the “Fund-raising on Demand” project.
