James Gayo was born in 1962 in Tanzania. He is well known for his popular kingo cartoon strip appearing in several dailies in East Africa and Zambia.
James turned a full time cartoonist/comic artist immediately after his secondary school.
In 1995 James, together with other artist started kingo magazine, in which he was the editor and the scriptwriter. The magazine was popular for humour stories and political satires.
Writing and making storyboards for the magazine deepened his desire for writing scripts for screen.
In 2004 he joined a group of scriptwriters for a local sit-com wandani.
