At first, the story unfolded by the couple in this film seems mechanical and sensual, but if you listen carefully, there is definitely a clear awareness under the surface. The images that sometimes seem to have a magical quality enchant the viewer with rapture at their stimulating freshness and beauty.
Maria Dyer was born in Austin, Texas. She has lived in Texas, Nebraska, Brazil, and Minnesota. Her senior year of high school was spent attending Macalester College and St. Thomas University in St. Paul Minnesota through the Minnesota scholar program PSEO. She then attended Brown University and completed her B.A. in art;: semiotics in 2006. "And Li, Guilharmenia" is her fourth short film and her first collaboration with Louise Despont. She is currently working on developing a surreal varitety show for Plum TV. Louise Despont was born and raised in New York City. She moved to Florence to study painting and then attended Brown University. She completed her B.A in Art Semiotics in 2006. her interest in stop-motion animation began when she made a series of life size driftwood marionettes and animated their secret lives in her apartment. She went on to work with Michel Gondry and later to build sets in Sweden for Roy Andersson. "And Lo, Guilharmenia" is her third short film and was born from her collaboration with Maria Dyer. She is currently preparing to exhibit a series of drawings.
