The Telegraph Pole Mother

ABOUT THE FILM

It would be hard for anyone to imagine the combination of a mother and a telegraph pole. How could such a thing be possible? The image of the telegraph pole raising her child using cables in place of arms and legs is quite charming. The spirit of the producer who made such a wild idea into a film is also quite charming.

A wonderful demonstration of human adaptability, it is an animation that shows the power of imagination. This flick illustrates how one boy banks on his ability to escape his violent and disheartening reality through the magic of imagination. He transfers his resentment towards his abusive mother and home life to create an idealist life with a humane, loving, caring telegraph pole. It shows how such inanimate can personify all that is desired from the stereotypical vision of a nurturing and protective mother. Through this there is also a minor commentary of the human’s inhumanity; in the lucid floating dream sequence there was a repetitive demonstration of humanities compulsion to destroy all that is natural and beautiful, in a manner of seconds it shows how humans progressed through technology only to find more advanced techniques to do away with nature and life. How an inanimate telegraph pole has now become the ideal of what humanity should be, a mother that cares for her child, always available as a sanctuary, waiting to help out, to assist her beloved offspring through all of the hard times of his life. The pole is somewhat a symbol of nature herself, as she does away with the industrialised entertainments provided in life to offer a more valued dream like life. Be there forever beloved telegraph pole, see me through all my hard times; let my imagination be my sanctuary, my escape, my love!

What inventiveness, the use of an inanimate object to project the tenderness of a loving mother. This work was so transcendental that I was at the hands of this beautiful narrative. Just beautiful!

One of the best animations I have ever seen. Both techniques and story are great.
